Famous horse racing trainer Sir Michael Stoute might be without a runner in the Epsom Derby following the omission of Telescope earlier in the week, but he isn't giving up hope on a win at the famous racecourse.
Stoute has Liber Nauticus entered into the Epsom Oaks and he believes the horse has a good chance of coming out on top. He has two winners in the Oaks, but his last victory came back in 1987 with Unite.
The Irish horse is considered as one of the front-runners with the bookies to take this historic encounter, but of course, a massive run is needed as the field is full of talent.
The three-year-old has only been involved in two races during her short career so far and you can't argue with her record as she has two victories - one at Goodwood last year and the other coming at York earlier in the month. This race will be her toughest yet, but there is nothing to suggest she can't come out on top.
That seems to be the thought of Stoute as well as the trainer said: "She is a fine big athlete.
"She was very green in her Goodwood race. In the Musidora I thought she did well, even if she was not spectacular, and I hope mentally more than anything it will have sharpened her up for the Oaks. We go there with a good chance."
In some ways, Stoute might have a better chance of winning the Oaks now as he doesn't have to focus on the Derby at all. All his attention can go into getting Liber Nauticus in the perfect shape for one of the biggest Flat races of the campaign.
Another famous trainer - Aidan O'Brien is likely to have two runners in this one as he is always a man to be feared in the big races. O'Brien was the winner of this race last year as Was came out on top, so he has the knowhow.
This could prove to be one of the most exciting Epsom Oakes for some time and there is plenty to ponder ahead of the race next week.
Can Sir Michael Stoute enjoy success for the first time in 27 years? Well, if he gets his preparation right and Liber Nauticus has a decent run, there is every chance the 67-year-old will be celebrating.
It should be a cracking encounter and is likely to be a closely-fought battle.
