Man City vs Arsenal Preview

Author: Roderick Marshall

After putting a halt to Bayern Munich's 11-match winning streak on Tuesday night, 4th-placed Manchester City welcome table-topping Arsenal to their turf in a match that pits EPL's best offensive side vs. the best defensive side. Man city have been prolific in front of their supporters this term, having raked in an impressive 16 goals in their last three games at Etihad. The Gunners, who are 5 points clear of second-placed Liverpool and lead City by six points, boast of the best defense in the league, having kept 3 clean sheets in the last three games before drawing 1-1 with Everton last week.

Aguero to score first and City to win is a brilliant 5/1 @ bet365

Man City football betting tip
Manchester City's top scorer this season is Sergio Aguero

While City will be basking in the glory of their 3-2 win at Olympic stadium in Munich, Arsenal will be wondering what went wrong in Naples where they lost 2-0 to Napoli. However, they still qualified as the group runners up after Borussia Dortmund beat Olympic Marseille in the group's other match in France.

Return of Aguero

After resting Sergio Aguero for Tuesday's Champions League match against Bayern Munich, the Argentinean, City's top scorer this season, is expected to lead the offensive for the Sky Blues. The diminutive Aguero has already scored 12 goals, and is the second best scorer in the league after Liverpool's Luis Suarez who has 15 goals thus far. Yaya Toure is also expected to return to the heart of Midfield for Manchester city after taking a much deserved rest on Tuesday. Another player who is expected to make swift returns to the team is Vincent Kompany, who has been out with injury.

Romanian goalkeeper, Costel Pantilimon, should return for City in goal after keeping 3 clean sheets in the last three games that City have played at home. On the defense, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy return to the flanks with Martin Demichelis returning to the bench after standing in for Kompany. He should be paired with Matija Nastasic at the heart of City defence.

How Arsenal will line up

Not much change should be expected from Gunner's side that lost at Napoli, but Thomas Rosicky is sure to be dropped as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere make their way back to the squad. Jenkinson should continue to deputise for Bacary Sagna, who is confirmed will miss the Man City vs. Arsenal.

Polish goalkeeper Wojiech Szczesny is the man to protect Gunner's rearguard. Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny should play at the central defence. With a fit Theo Walcott, Gunners coach Arsene Wenger may tinker a little bit with his squad in order to accommodate the speedy English winger. Mesut Ozil is the firm favorite to play behind Olivier Giroud while either Jack Wilshere or Theo Walcott will play in the right side of the midfield. Santi Cazorla should play in the left midfield role.

At the heart of Arsenal Midfield should be Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey meaning French midfielder Mathew Flamini should once again be confined to the bench.

Past history

Man City seem to be comfortable while playing Arsenal lately whether in their backyard or away at the Emirates. The same fixture last year ended 1-1 after Laurient Koscielny scored an 82nd minute equalizer. Arsenal have won only once in their last 5 games at City, winning 3-0 in October 2010.

Prediction

5/6 at bet365 on the Man City win. Manuel Pellegrini's charges should easily win this.

Man City vs Arsenal: 2-1 in favour of the hosts.
