Chisora-Haye Spat Continues

Fans and the public have been left shocked after a recent spat between Dereck Chisora and David Haye has left British boxing in disrepute.

Chisora challenged Haye during the press conference on Saturday after a fierce 12-round defeat against WBC ace Vitali Klitschko in Munich, which was broadcast in 150 countries.

According to reports, Chisora goaded Haye for the hapless performance against Klitschko's brother Wladimir last year which cost him his title and after insults traded on both sides the violent conflict broke out between them, with their nearby entourages becoming involved.

The ensuing struggle left Haye's trainer and manager Adam Booth with an unpleasant gash to his face. The official transcript from the conference suggests that the wound may have been caused by a glass bottle. It remains unknown whether this was accidental or intended a weapon – and if so by whom.

Onlookers were shocked by the unexpected and unnecessary incident and there were shouts of fear as the scene descended into turmoil with people flung around the room.

Haye made a quick exit after the brawl and it is thought that he flew home in the early hours of the morning. Although he has made himself scarce since, his manager has assured the press that he will return to Munich for questioning as necessary.

Chisora was arrested and questioned by German police at Munich Airport before being released without charge to return to the UK.

The British Boxing Board of Control has announced it will be investigating the incident and sources suggest that they intend to inflict a lifelong ban on both men.

In an increasingly worrying turn of events, it has now been suggested that the pair could face jail sentences with Chisora suspected of malicious injury and Haye of grievous bodily harm.

The shadow of this shameful and unnecessary event over British boxing looks likely to linger for the foreseeable future.
