Pep Guardiola to be the next Arsenal manager?
Rumours are flying that Arsene Wenger could be replaced at Arsenal by Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, currently priced at 15/2 in PaddyPowers next Manager odds market, after an uninspiring season.
French manager Arsene Wenger – who has had a 16 year stint at Arsenal - could be moved into the boardroom as early as this summer. After Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Sunderland, and the recent Champions League humiliation at AC Milan, Wenger has found himself under increasing scrutiny.
Senior officials at the club are planning the move amid fears that Arsenal may fail to qualify for next year’s profitable Champions League on the back of their unreliable Premier League performance.
With wealthy American Stan Kroenke now a majority shareholder at the club, efforts to boost international popularity and profit have doubled. It is crucial to this aim for the team to achieve in future games.
Arsenal may be planning to tempt Guardiola over from Barcelona as soon as possible, to take advantage of his contractual uncertainty. His contract will finish at the end of this season after four years at the club and despite pressure to renew he has been unable to rule out a move.
